Mainstreams first wicket-keeper and Mr Versatile. More old school than Cambidge University, Marty was as far from a Gilchrist style of keeper than you can get. Brown batted in every position in the 11 but we still never found his ideal spot. Marty would validate his old school style keeping by advising not to rely on his batting as he likes to concentrate on catching what comes his way. To be fair, he did a more than admirable job behind the sticks. Forced into retirement due to dodgy knees, back, wrists, hammies and the odd wart, Mr Brown sailed galantly into retirement and still holds the record for most dismissals by a Mainstream keeper. |
